Recapping

Lateral Thinking - It is as many ideas as you can find to one solution.

Charge 50% to client so that if they bail on you, you could still pay your bills

First presentation is sketches.
Try to get clients involved in the development of their project.
Mood board - stick anything related to your project on this board e.g. HGTV

Look at competitors. To make sure you don't have exactly what they have.

UCD- User Centred design
wants, needs and limitations of the users.
Ethnographic study - people in their environment.
Principles of user face design - tolerance, simplicity, visibility, affordance - quality of object and environment, consistancy, structure and feedback.

The Design Process Part 2

Lateral Thinking and Six Thinking Hats by Edward De bono

Vertical thinking is selective. Rightness is what matters in vertical thinking. It selects a pathway excluding other pathways.

a problem is the difference between what has and what one wants.

White hat: Facts
Black hat: Negative judgement
Red hat: emotions
Yellow: Positive thinking e.g solutions
Green: Creativity and alternatives
Blue hat: Process control, thinking about thinking

Grey hat: is when you question yourself. It is an intravert.

Process
Have written work, because to legal issues.

Statement of work
Specific tasks
Things you're going to do, won't do, can't do, the things the company need to do before you can do your job.

They need to provide text

Brief
Official contract: Terms ...official document, witnessed.
Conditions must be noted e.g. changes and alterations esp. just before you print.
Ownership is important when it comes to visual arts.

ask for a downpayment to make sure the client is dedicated to the project, cause they can change their mind at any minute.

Delivery is also important to note.

PROJECT: Document the process on the final process.
Mind map, define six hats.
Visual direction via mind maps.

Video Production Lesson 1

There are 3 video making processes
1. Pre-production
2. Production
3. Post-production

Visit: http://www.mediacollege.com/video/shots/

Close-ups are emotional shots.

Make sure you record sound for 16Bits/400khz. Make sure your camera can record up to this, or any recording device.

Things needed on set
Lighting, camera, audio equipment, food

Need release forms in your planning.

People
Make-up artists
Actors
Grips
Sound Crew
Director
Stunt men
Wardrobe - have to research the wardrobe
Executive producer - spends the money. Any time you see exec, it mean money. lol.
DP- director of photography
Cinematographer -

Hotspots - white spots on things are people. Some times you can fix.

Light meter can tell when it is too hot in the room.

They put milk in the rain to make it look more realistic.

Director and the project manager are two important people needed to make sure that the production runs smoothly.

Final Cut pro work on a Hi-Def file, red camera - twice as sharp.

Color correction - you can take out colours.

LIGHTING
Key Light - The main light, normally the brightest, the hottest
Film Light - to control shadows, opposite key light
Back Light - without it, there is no depth. Used to create a 3-d effect.

Do not have florescent light!

Grey is the most neutral colour. Have your desktop grey when you are editing.

White balance helps the camera see everything in a spectrum.

There are +3 or -3 frames per second, but it depends on which setting you are in.

The Design Process

1. Research
2. Concept
3. Design Production
4. Delivery

RESEARCH
Need to know about your competition if your planning to bring out something new. Competitor is someone who offers similar or same product.
Also:
  • Their target group.
  • How long they were in business.
Must know things about your target:
  • Size
  • race
  • Income
  • Age
"It is pardonable to be defeated but never to be surprised." - Jones

CONCEPT
Kiosk Theory: You can find perfection out of kiosk.

Intrapersonal communication - talking to yourself
Interpersonal- between two persons
Group communication- satisfy every member of the group.

Human Computer Interaction.
How we learn: Learning theories have alot of design cues in there.

DESIGN PRODUCTION
The most successful concepts are created on the computer, allowing clients to see.

thecoolhunter.net

Need to do a workflow chart.
If a client refuses to put down 50% of the money down, it usually means that they will not pay you at the end.

When you have an est. workflow, if some one drops out, they can easily be replaced.
Workflow similar to Freemind.

DELIVERY
Handing work over to the client might be stressful.
Must think about how your going to present the product. Have to have different strategies for delivery. You want your delivery to be in the highest quality. It is up to the client to reduce the size.

Concept for layout newspapers
balance, contrast, rhythm, unity and harmony.

Trapping digital files.
There are techniques called choke and spread.

CMYK- cyan, magenta, yellow and kull (black)
